The History of GWM – CMH Haval Little Falls

With all the excitement around The GWM P-Series we thought it might be worth taking a look at the History of GWM. How did they land up at this point and who were the influential players in building the brand to where it is today? GWM was named after the Great Wall of China and it was formed in the year 1984. GWM is currently China’s biggest producer of SUV’s.
GWM’s started with low volume production of trucks. The first of these trucks was called CC130 which was followed by the CC513. In the 1990’s the brand started producing sedan vehicles grabbing the attention of the growing middle class in China. The brand first entered the South African market in 2007 launching with single cab and double cab bakkies. This meant they entered one of the biggest contested markets in the country. A few years later the company began production on a number of SUV’s and pick up’s namely the HAVAL H3 Diesel Comfortable Model, HAVAL M2, HAVAL H5 European Style Version, HAVAL H5 Intelligent Version, HAVAL H5 Automatic Transmission, MPV model Great Wall V80, WINGLE 5, and the first sedan car Voleex C30. The GMW brand we see today started to become more recognisable with the global launch of the Haval H6 which won numerous safety awards and is one the icons of the GWM/Haval brand. In 2014 GWM began is focus around production of SUV’s. The H1, H2 and the H6 were the models our market is most familiar with but other models such as the H8 and the H9 were also launched.
In 2019 GWM official announced the P-Series and planned to sell more than 200 000 units by 2020 and sell more than 3 million units globally by 2025. The launch of the P-series has been quite successful globally and GWM are on track to achieve this ambitious target by the end of 2025. It’s been a little over a month since the initial launch of the P-Series and the excitement is still growing. The P-series is GWM’s latest offering to the bakkie market which is fiercely contested. It has the looks, features and its pricing is undoubtedly going to appeal to many South Africans But just how good is the P-series? To answer, we turned to veteran motoring TV and Radio presenter to answer some of our questions.
1.) Now that you have seen the P-Series, what was your first impression? First impressions. I like the size of the vehicle, commanding presence and is a good-looking vehicle…but there again it’s a personal choice. 2.) Given your experience with all thing’s vehicles, do you think the P-Series is serious competitor in bakkie market in SA? Is it a serious competitor??? We need to remember that the South African bakkie driver is very brand loyal, so for the P series to be competitive it has to offer a whole lot more at a very affordable price. I am happy to say that it comes pretty close with all its features. It is priced to sell. As a work horse bakkie we need to see the numbers increase on the road. 3.) What did you think of the features and ride of the P-Series? It is a great ride on the road, and I will not comment on its off-road capabilities as I did not try it under those conditions. 4.) Is there anything that you could say GWM could improve on with the P-Series? Very disappointed with its power plant. Quite slow on pull away. Needs a bigger and more powerful engine. 5.) After a long 18 month wait CMH Haval Little Falls has The GWM P-Series now that it has hit the South African shores. The P-Series was announced at The Auto Shanghai and since then the South African market has been anticipating its arrival.

The New P-Series Pickup is GWM’s latest offering in the SA market. With vehicles like the Hilux and Ranger already dominating the market, it’s a welcome alternative! This new comfort vehicle comes with safety features such as Lane Support System, Lane departure warning, Lane keeping assist, Lane Centre keeping, Blind spot information system, 360-degree camera and a Reverse camera. It is competitively priced as well, with the passenger derivatives starting from R434 900. This price will certainly be appealing as this is a much cheaper starting price than a Ranger or Hilux. Under the hood is a two-litre turbocharged-diesel unit producing 120kW and 400 Nm. GWM has also stated that it will be available in double cab only for the passenger vehicles with a choice of 2 separate grades. LS (Luxury Special) and LT(Luxury Tourer). The LS grade of the P-Series has features like LED headlights, 7 airbags and 9-inch multimedia system. The LT grade adds to these features and offers voice recognition, a 220 V charger, heated seats, a chrome styling bar and adaptive cruise control. The Haval H2 – a Sino-SA success story

The Haval H2 made its South African debut at the very same time the brand from the Peoples’ Republic of China owned by Great Wall Motors made its entry into South Africa in May of 2017. GWM is no stranger to the SA market sporting a 12-year presence here, but previously under the wing of an importer distributor. So, with its entry into the country, this time as Haval and now as a wholly owned subsidiary to GWM Corporation.
Haval H2 Since May 2017 sales of the now infamous Haval brand climbed steadily as more and more South Africans chose the brand and pegged their bets on safety, reliability and trust. The corner stones of the Haval ethos the world over. From humble beginnings the brand is now selling in excess of 1000 units regularly with a new record sales figure being set in January 2020 of 1083 units sold within the borders of South Africa. The Haval H2 is positioned as Haval’s global C category volume model and is not only famous globally as Haval’s first “World Car” but continues to maintain presence for its affordability together with its value proposition status. Launched in China in 2014 and in SA three years later the H2 was positioned originally as the “ideal choice” product offering. LITLE FALLS ROODEPOORT Recently a group of motoring journalists headed off to the picturesque location of Hermanus to view something a little different than what the area is popular for. These journalists were there to experience the official media launch of the all new Haval H2, which officially launched at the end of January 2020 after a very popular first reveal in 2019 at the Festival of Motoring. Underneath, the new H2 is largely unchanged from the previous model featuring the same 1.5 Turbo engine, chassis and gear box configurations as well as suspension. However, the interior and styling is another story. The new H2 features a new hexagonally shaped grill, new front and rear bumpers as well as fenders and new arrow shaped headlights with LED technology on the Luxury model and a new hexagonally shaped taillight. The rear also features a new chrome strip, a realigned reflector with a raised protection strip as well as larger twin exhaust pipes and a new splitter plate all coming together to form a more dynamic, sporty and aggressive design. The wheels feature an all new 5 spoke 18-inch design rounding out what is a sexier, more stylish vehicle than its predecessor.
Haval H2 Internally the new H2 features a trendy, convenient, modern and user-friendly layout for a more pleasurable driving experience. The addition of Apple Carplay is a welcome gadget as well for the modern-day driver. It had no noticeable effect on the car’s handling and noise levels were impressively low.” Sean Nurse from Autodealer added, “It is easy to see why the H2 has been so successful for the Chinese automaker, it offers a great value proposition, is practical and well specified.” “Overall the H2 is a very good value proposition that provides a long list of standard features put together in a premium package and in a tightly contested segment it’s easy to see why they are so popular.” That’s what Willem van de Putte from IOL said after his time with the H2. St. John’s Easter rugby and hockey Festival

CMH Haval Little Falls Roodepoort had the opportunity to be part of the St. John’s Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival. Haval Motors south Africa was a partner at the festival in which we were first option to participate as a vendor during the inaugural event. There was a plethora of teams from all corners of Mzansi, both high schools, primary schools as well as some union showcases highlighting the magnificent school programmes that are garnering the talents of tomorrow’s professional athletes. The festival began on the 18th of April. There was a Standard Bank sponsored lounge and food garden with cashless transactions promoting the efficiency of using pre-loaded Standard Bank cards, SnapScan and all Debit and Credit Cards. Heineken beer garden for those whom came to quench thirsts and an entertainment section sponsored by network service provider, MTN. Spur Kids Zone play area, tea garden and food trucks were also available for different culinary palates and experiences. We had an array of GWM and Haval vehicles and signage dispersed over different parts of the Sir. Herbert Baker designed premises. A massive Haval Motors co-sponsored screen kept the audience in the loop minute for minute, this was bordered by the Haval H9 and Haval H2 Lux models that drew the attention of the masses on the main field. A thoroughly enjoyable occasion for family, friends and fans of rugby and great exposure for the Haval and GWM brands.

The Haval H6 C Luxury is one of the most brilliant vehicle we have come across in a long time where luxury meets value and you get some of the best builds that your budget will allow. From the big front grill and the dynamic athletic lines with an uncompromising silhouette, the “C” starts to ring note of reminding that in true coupe style you will get power, luxury and comfort. The kicker is that you will not have to break the bank for the extreme level of luxury you get in this sublime SUV.
The interior is something to truly behold and admire. Magnificent led trims on the door sills, and ambient trim lights in the dash board have futuristic styling base. HAVAL global cumulative sales have exceeded 5 Million units

On January 13, with the theme of “Leading in China, aiming for the world”, the HAVAL Global 5-million-sales Celebration Ceremony and Global Strategic Conference was held at the HAVAL R&D Centre in Baoding. HAVAL owners, Chinese and foreign experts, partners and over 500 media from all over the world gathered to share HAVAL’s success and joy at the company reaching the Global 5-million-sales cumulative sales mark and witness the release of the “521” Globalization Strategic Blueprint of the SUV powerhouse, a map of the future plans to increase the brands global footprint. By the end of 2018 the accumulated global sales of HAVAL SUV exceeded 5 million units, and in doing so HAVAL became the first professional SUV brand in China to enter the 5 Million Club. For nine years in a row HAVAL SUV have topped the rankings of SUVs sold in China. As the best seller of the HAVAL brand, the HAVAL H6 has created a new legacy as the sales champion for a total of 67 consecutive months in the SUV market. All New Haval H6 breaks cover on European soil

On September 29, a brand-new Haval H6 broke cover at an extravagant launch and test-drive event held in Odessa, a coastal city in the Ukraine. With over 300 guests attending the event, including top local business decision makers, automobile industry representatives, media and press, as well as future potential customers were also present. Even in this picturesque setting the brand-new Haval H6 still succeeded in captivating the guests with its gorgeous ergonomics and glamorous appearance.

The General Manager of the Bogdan Group, the Ukrainian dealer of Haval, unveiled the brand-new Haval H6, already steadfast in the global SUV market as one of the world’s top ten best-selling SUVs. The brand new model stands true to the classic Haval stylistic appearance showing off its dynamic and fashionable lines through the now unmistakable double straight and rising waist lines as well as the upward approaching rear window and tail styling.

As part of the launch event, over 90 prospective customers and more than 20 media members were invited to participate in a test-drive event for the brand-new Haval H6 at the ultra-modern Vzletka test-drive facility in Odessa. The combination of the 1.5 GDIT power plant and the seven speed DCT gearbox, proved to be a perfectly harmonious marriage matched only by the excellent cornering ability offered by the front McPherson independent suspension and rear double cross arm independent suspension. The brand new H6 performed strongly on the varied surfaces offered by the facility such as sand, muddy ground and highways.
